Description: Tarney - St Mark Passion

Experience the dramatic intensity of Oliver Tarney's St Mark Passion, a contemporary telling that resonates with ancient tradition.
The north of England premiere of St Mark Passion, written in 2019, will be performed by choir, soloists, and orchestra against the atmospheric backdrop of Pugin’s St Cuthbert’s Chapel, using this impressive space to create a sense of immediacy and involvement for the audience. Tarney’s dramatic and profound setting of the Good Friday story draws in many of the parables and miracles from Mark’s gospel to frame the narrative. He and the librettist Lucia Quinault also strive to offer a voice to those who are traditionally voiceless in this story.

Join us for what promises to be a gripping and powerful evening of music in a very special setting.

    What the critics say:
Of the premiere performance, the Church Times commented, ‘All those involved were at an amazing evening: a world première of a work that I hope will travel the world. What an effect it had on all of us on Good Friday on the north Cornish coast.’
