All-night vigil performed in liturgy

Some unusual video footage of Rachmaninov’s All Night Vigil being sung liturgically, in the church near where he was born, in Moscow. It’s not sung in church very often because the orthodox authorities didn’t approve of Rachmaninov’s setting, but once a year, on the Saturday closest to the date of the composer’s death, part of it is sung in a special service. In 2011, when this was filmed, it was a double commemoration as the date fell on the composer’s birthday; the choir is the Moscow Synodal Choir, the musical descendants of the singers who first sang it. (There’s about 10 seconds of Russian intro).
