Music for a Summer’s Evening

Saturday 8 July 2023, 7.30 pm
St Brandon’s Church, Brancepeth, Durham

The Durham Singers will be performing an a cappella concert of extraordinarily beautiful songs, madrigals and other works on the theme of ‘Summer’ on 8 July 2023 at St Brandon’s Church, Brancepeth, at 7.30pm. Why not join us and hear Stanford’s ‘The Bluebird’, Pearsall’s ‘Lay a Garland’ and Tom Edney’s arrangement of ‘Moorlough Shore’, as the summer sun sets over the hills of Durham.

As well as celebrating the music of Byrd and Weelkes, both of whom died 400 years ago, in 1623, our summer concert pays homage to many composers, e.g., Vaughan Williams, Holst, Lovell, Barber, who have drawn influence from these two hugely important figures. Passing through the English and American choral traditions up to the present day, along with readings that reflect the pieces chosen, this is sure to be a concert which leaves you with joy in your heart and a tune in your head.
